A Historical overview on Batam
Batam form one of the islands which locating between the Malacca and Singapore straits. It is never known where the name of Batam was derived from, which could become a reference from where the name of Batam to be taken. It is clearly that Batam is a big island among the 329 islands locating in the Batam City territory. The one and only source, which mentioned clearly the name of Batam and could be find out to this time is London Tractate (1824). It is estimated that the indigenous inhabitants of Batam are Melayu people, who are well known as straits or sea people. Masjid Raya Batam
Masjid Raya Batam Great Mosque is located in Batam Centre, 100 meters to west of Batam Municipality Office. It is the biggest mosque in Riau Archipelagos Province. Mak Yong Theatre
Makyong Theatre is a Malay traditional artistry exists in Batam, precisely in Panjang Island. This theatre is also well known in Mantang Arang, Riau Archipelagos Province. All tonal players or Makyong theatre usually wear according to acted figure. In the stage performance Makyong is accompanied by typical song and music of Malay. Kompang Music

Sampan Kolek
Sampan Kolek is a dated traditional boat that the ancient seamen used to catch fish (fish, octopus, and fish netting). Sampan Kolek Has sails and strongly depends on nthe wind blow to come the destination. There was yet no machined boat. The race takes place in August in Belakang Padang and Sembulang.
